Today the world marks the 100th Anniversary of Armenian Genocide. Church Bells in the capitals (and not only) of 112 countries have tolled around the world – 100 times for 100 years after the 1915. But while the world community is commemorating the victims of the massacres and the EU Parliament, as well as parliaments of many countries urge the recognition, Turkish Government has taken the denialist policy and enjoys the support of certain politicians who consider Turkey as a close economic and geopolitical ally. But today, we, the young people, all over the world stand together in the movement #ICAN1915 to speak up the truth and put human’s life above politics.

The term Genocide was coined by Polish-Jewish lawyer Raphael Lemkin in 1944, whose family was one of the victims of the Jewish Holocaust. By defining this term, Lemkin sought to describe Nazi politics of systematic murder, violence as well atrocities committed against the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. He stated that he did so with the fate of the Armenians in mind, explaining that “it happened so many times … It happened to the Armenians, then after the Armenians Hitler took action”. On December 9, 1948, the United Nations approved the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
